June Gilles has specialised in planning, compulsory purchase and other local government issues for over 25 years.  Since joining Semple Fraser in 1990, she has advised the firm’s clients on a wide range of property and planning projects and development-related problems, including shopping centre, supermarket and non-food retail, industrial, hazardous chemical, leisure, mineral extraction and windfarm developments. 

Ranked as a leading individual by Chambers Directory and described as “immensely focused and praiseworthy”, June is a dual qualified lawyer and head of the firm’s Planning Group. 

Her considerable experience of advising on large and complex development projects south of the border, where the regulatory frameworks are in many ways quite different from those applying in Scotland, has given her a broader perspective on development issues and options, which she has used to good effect in her Scottish advising.  Clients recognise her ability to give innovative and commercial advice in this highly technical area of the law.

June works closely with fellow Partner Kenneth Carruthers, who handles the majority of contentious planning work for the firm’s clients.
