Age Discrimination

The Age Regulations were introduced last year in order to combat age discrimination in the workplace.  The Construction and Engineering industry is particularly affected by these regulations – not only because it employs a higher than average proportion of workers over the age of 55, but also for a number of other reasons.

Every employee is potentially affected by age discrimination and the regulations cover all levels of employment from recruitment to dismissal.  Therefore employers need to act now to ensure that their policies and procedures are compliant.

This briefing highlights the changes made by the Regulations and also offers guidance to those involved in the construction industry on how to avoid age discrimination complaints which could have an extremely negative impact on employers.
