The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

As of April 2010, organisations will have to improve their energy efficiency under the Government’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

The mandatory climate change and energy saving scheme is central to the UK’s strategy for improving energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.  It will operate as a 'cap and trade' mechanism, providing a financial incentive to reduce energy use by putting a price on carbon emissions from energy use.

The draft CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme Order 2010 has just been laid in Parliament and the revised user guide is now available.  Although the draft Order will be subject to Parliamentary approval before it comes into force in April 2010, large organisations need to act now to improve their energy efficiency.

To help and guide you we have produced a Briefing Note which addresses the key components of the CRC, looks at who must comply and offers some guidance on what needs to be done now.
