Semple Fraser appoints banking specialist
Semple Fraser announces the appointment of Douglas Gourlay as a Senior Associate in the specialist Banking & Finance team.
Douglas is dual qualified in English and Scots law and brings a wealth of cross-border experience in both commercial property and corporate banking practice, with particular expertise in property finance. He joins the firm from Dundas & Wilson where he has advised most of the major UK and Irish banks and other financial institutions on a wide range of business, including all types of property investment and development as well as offshore tax-saving schemes and other high value property finance transactions.
Semple Fraser’s Banking & Finance team has a long history of successful multi-million pound deals throughout the UK. The firm now boasts 23 dual qualified lawyers and a further 6 English qualified lawyers who advise on deals both north and south of the border.
The three-partner Banking & Finance team has extensive experience in advising UK clearing banks and other financial institutions on various types of facilities (including syndicated facilities and equity investments) and clients include Bank of Scotland plc, Lloyds TSB Bank plc, The Royal Bank of Scotland plc, Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish Bank Corporation plc, Clydesdale Bank plc, Britannia Building Society, Nationwide Building Society and the Dunfermline Building Society.
The team has built up considerable expertise in offshore structures, acting for both banks and investors, looking at innovative methods of holding UK property and advising clients on the considerable tax savings these can bring through effective structuring and funding.
