EU Briefing 2 - Environmental Impact Assessment
The EIA process is littered with obstacles, and more are on the way. As of 25th June 2005, a number of new and crucial amendments to the EIA Directive will become enforceable, which will improve the public’s participation in the process. Although developers and public authorities need to be aware of the requirements on a national level, they also – especially – have to be aware of the supra-national European requirements to ensure that their development proposals and processes work seamlessly, and avoid complications and legal challenges.
This briefing is also available in French.
