Semple Fraser lawyer appointed President of Edinburgh business club
Edinburgh Businesswomen's Club (ESBC) has welcomed its youngest ever president.
Caroline Buchan, a 27-year-old lawyer with Semple Fraser, has taken over the Presidency for 2010, and has big plans to grow the women's business club across the Capital.
Ms Buchan, who joined the ESBC in 2008, and was promoted to vice president in 2009, has already hit the ground running in 2010 with attendance at networking events and business lunches increased by 50 per cent already.
The club, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, was the first women only networking organisation in Edinburgh.
Aimed at encouraging the growing numbers of businesswomen to get together and share experiences, offer advice and tap into a wider Scottish network, it has enjoyed a strong membership from start up companies, charities, public sector and professional services.
This year, Ms Buchan is keen to re-energise the club and extend the membership encouraging women from across Edinburgh to get involved and benefit from its wealth of experience.
Commenting on her new role, she said:
"I have learnt a huge amount already through my involvement with ESBC, and have met lots of very impressive businesswomen from a variety of organisations.
In Scotland alone 277,000 women between the age of 16-64 considered setting up in business in 2008 and I am keen that the ESBC continues to encourage and support these women.
We have created an ambitious calendar of business, training and development and social events planned to make ESBC the club that women in Edinburgh want to join, because of the benefits and opportunities we can offer.
Joining the ESBC committee gives women the experience of a board level position, with many of those going on to join boards of other significant organisations throughout Scotland through the experience and learning gained."
