Placemaking in Scotland: Designing Urban Communities
June Gilles, Head of Planning at Semple Fraser, will be speaking at the upcoming conference 'Placemaking in Scotland: Designing Urban Communities' on Tuesday 6th October 2009 in Edinburgh.
The conference will focus on:
The future for placemaking - Setting the context for the day, this session will focus on the vision for urban communities in Scotland. How are these being delivered by the Scottish Government and local authorities? What are we doing well and what are the areas for improvement? What can we learn from places like Birmingham and Newcastle Gateshead?
Connecting districts, streets and spaces - With a range of presentations on the components of placemaking, speakers will set out key policies, challenges and examples of best practice in housing, transport, sustainability and the future of the planning system in Scotland.
Community participation - Featuring best practice examples from across the country, this session will feature extended interactive debate opportunities, allowing delegates to question leading practitioners and learn valuable lessons for their own work.
