Kintyre Development Company embark on hotel refurbishment programme
Semple Fraser is acting for Kintyre Development Company (KDC) on a scheme to restore two hotels in Kintyre.
Funding of £1.12 million towards the project was approved yesterday by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and includes £744,000 coming from the European Regional Development Fund.
The project will restore the Ugadale Hotel in Machrihanish and Campbeltown's Royal Hotel and will build on previous investment in the new Machrihanish Dunes golf course owned by KDC, which opened in July 2009. KDC is itself part of the Southworth Development group of companies.
The Ugadale Hotel in Machrihanish overlooks the famous first hole at Machrihanish Golf Club (widely regarded as “the most spectacular opening hole in golf”) and will feature 22 rooms as well as a malt whisky bar and local seafood restaurant. The Royal Hotel, located 8km away in the centre of Campbeltown will be refurbished to provide 23 rooms, including three suites and a steak and oyster bar.
Southworth aims to complete the project by spring 2011.
David DeSmith, director of marketing for Southworth, said:
“These hotels are an integral part of our aim to make Machrihanish a must-visit golf destination for both national and international visitors. We aim to provide world-class accommodation which will be worthy of Kintyre, one of the most beautiful areas in the world.”
Semple Fraser have been acting for both KDC and its parent company, Southworth, for the past three years, providing advice on a wide range of legal matters including property, planning, corporate and banking services.
