Semple Fraser appoints new planning assistant as Planning Bill draws near

Katherine McGoohan has recently joined Semple Fraser's fast-growing planning team, showing the firm’s continued commitment to leading the field during a dynamic and challenging time for planning law.

Katherine, an English-qualified solicitor, joins Semple Fraser with two years experience working for Hertfordshire County Council, a busy planning authority. She has widespread experience in English planning and road/highway law, with particular expertise in planning obligations/agreements and highway agreements. She also previously worked for the Crown Prosecution Service.

Joining June Gilles’ Glasgow-based team, Katherine is looking forward to working on a client list that includes Tesco Stores Ltd, The British Land Company PLC, Royal & Sun Alliance, Zurich Assurance Ltd and Land Securities Group PLC.

Commenting on her new appointment, Katherine said,

“I am very excited about being part of Semple Fraser, which is an ambitious and growing firm. It’s a very exciting time to be working in planning law and I am thrilled to be joining the team.”

Head of Planning, June Gilles said,

“With recent changes to the planning system in England beginning to have a real impact, we are now preparing for what could be a radical shake-up to the system here in Scotland, once the Planning Bill has gone through Parliament. With consultation having just completed on John Prescott’s planning gain supplement proposals, it’s an extremely busy and challenging time for the team. Bringing Katherine on board is part of our long-term strategy to provide the best available technical expertise and she is a welcome addition to the team.”

Semple Fraser’s Managing Partner, Alister Fraser added,

“The demand for planning law advisory services is growing rapidly in all our UK markets and we are very pleased to have Katherine join us.”
