Planning for Waste
In planning how best to deal with our Waste problems, it would be nice to think that a strategic vision was in place, allied to a means of identifying suitable sites for new waste facilities at the local level.
Such a vision has been contemplated by the Waste Framework Directive since at least 1998. To help achieve the “integrated and adequate network of disposal installations” envisaged by the Directive, each European state is supposed to draw up waste management plans that show suitable sites for disposal.
This briefing looks at planning obligations at a European level.
