New community development by The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment
Semple Fraser recently acted for ZeroC Homes on a new mixed use development of 770 residential units with associated shops, workplaces, infrastructure, commercial space, community facilities and greenspace.
The community is being developed by The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment. The new neighbourhood of Knockroon will be built on land adjacent to Dumfries House, which was acquired when HRH The Duke of Rothesay led a consortium of individuals and organisations in saving the historic property for the nation in June 2007.
Knockroon will be built as an extension to the town of Cumnock, complementing East Ayrshire Council's efforts to regenerate the town centre. The development embraces the Prince's Foundation's visionary design principles which revolve around the wellbeing of both people and the planet.
Knockroon will be as "green" and energy efficient as possible. Electricity and heat will be derived from renewable sources and investigations are underway into recovering energy from waste and biomass and into harnessing wind power.
The Prince's Foundation has appointed ZeroC Homes as overall developer for the first phase. Planning permission was granted in principle in December 2009, and a detailed planning application will now be drawn up for the first phase of the development, with construction starting on-site in Summer 2010.
Semple Fraser provided property advice to developer ZeroC Homes.
