Semple Fraser hails growth as fee income exceeds £10m

Scottish law firm Semple Fraser has seen its annual fee income push through the £10 million barrier, marking the third consecutive year of 20 per cent-plus growth.

The news emerged as the practice, which has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, said it had acquired multi-national partnership status.

This is designed to encourage lawyers from a number of countries to join together in one single partnership with a view to providing services to clients across borders. Scots law firms making the move can promote to partner-level lawyers who qualified elsewhere.

The new rule was introduced earlier this year under amended Law Society of Scotland practising regulations.

It is understood that Edinburgh-based corporate specialist Dickson Minto is the only other Scottish firm to have taken on multi-national partnership status.

Unveiling a 24 per cent hike in income to £10.8m, Semple Fraser managing partner Alister Fraser said:

"We are excited about this development because we see ourselves as a UK business practising from the Scottish Central Belt and this structure allows us to achieve our goals. "

"Yet another year of continued growth shows the firm is going from strength to strength."

The firm currently employs more than 130 staff, of which 25 are partners.
