Semple Fraser promotes specialists

Semple Fraser recently promoted two Solicitors – Fiona Carlin and Mark Sabey – to Associate status, in recognition of their outstanding business acumen and technical and professional knowledge.

Fiona joined Semple Fraser earlier this year from DLA Piper, along with Gordon Hollerin, to develop further the firm's specialist offering in Corporate Recovery & Insolvency.  She is 4 years qualified and very experienced in the field of insolvency.  Fiona acts for a diverse range of clients nationwide including banks, leading insolvency practitioners and businesses of all sizes as well as individual clients.

The current market has led to an increase in pre-insolvency advice and Fiona often advises on restructuring and on avoiding insolvency or at least minimising the consequences of it.

Gordon Hollerin, Head of the Corporate Recovery & Insolvency Group comments:

“We operate in a highly complex and specialist marketplace.  Fiona constantly keeps up to date with developments in the law and in the market in order to provide focused commercial advice to our clients.”

Mark is an English qualified commercial property lawyer and is heavily involved in advising Semple Fraser’s client base in England.  Semple Fraser has a number of clients throughout the UK as well as other parts of Europe and one third of the firm’s lawyers are either dual qualified or English qualified.

Mark advises corporate investors on institutional acquisitions, lettings and disposals, including development of existing retail units and new shopping centres, and industrial and office premises.

Managing Partner, Alister Fraser, adds:

“The development of a first rate professional service firm comes down ultimately to the quality and development of its people.  At times like these it is never more evident that our success as a firm is down to the hard work and enthusiasm of lawyers like Fiona and Mark.”

Iain Barton, an Associate in the Firm’s specialist Employment Group, has also recently been accredited as a Mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).

His accreditation as a Mediator comes ahead of the Government's changes to workplace dispute resolution and the enhanced emphasis expected to be placed on mediation as a means of resolving employment disputes.  Accreditation allows Iain to act as a CEDR Accredited Mediator, and will see him extremely well placed to advise clients on the most effective means of preventing and resolving employment disputes, including by mediation in appropriate cases.
