cdm 2007 gets serious
The most significant health and safety regulations to impact the construction industry, the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM Regs), were replaced and came into force on 6th April 2007 accompanied with the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP).
The construction industry is one of the most dangerous areas for people to work in, with around 3600 major injuries in the industry each year. The Government has therefore focused on introducing new legislation to tackle this problem.
The new regulations, the CDM 2007, which replace the existing CDM Regs 1994, apply to construction projects and place additional duties on clients, designers and contractors to plan and manage health and safety.
The focus of the new regulations is to enhance the duty of the client, appoint a CDM Co-ordinator (who now replace planning supervisors), and to reduce bureaucracy.
• Did you know that as a developer, you are responsible for preventing accidents in the industry?
• Did you know that under the CDM 2007, a developer will not be able to able to pass his liabilities for safety to another party?
• Did you know that the CDM Co-ordinator requires to be appointed at the “initial stages of design“?
It is vital that everyone involved in the construction industry is aware of the changes and the responsibilities that now fall upon to them to ensure that health and safety procedures are adhered to.
At this seminar we will be looking at the new regulations, identifying the changes and showing what this means in practice.

This seminar is one of a series that offers practical guidance and solutions to issues affecting those involved in the construction and engineering industry. The seminar will also present you with an opportunity to network with peers in your industry and share best practice.
Our construction team have also produced a Briefing which provides an overview of the CDM Regs 2007, highlighting the amendments and addressing some on the impacts of the changes. This Briefing is available by clicking here .
